Environmental Health and Safety Specialist II

Position Purpose:

Varitec Solutions LLC is hiring an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to support the efforts of the risk management department. We have offices in: Phoenix, Tucson, El Paso and Albuquerque. This position will office out our Phoenix facility with a key focus on our general contracting line of business. In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and executing policies, procedures and programs to enhance workflow and ensure legal, regulatory and safety compliance. Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate to develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety and other relevant topics
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures
  • Conduct regular safety and environmental inspections and audits of facilities and equipment to identify and address hazards and risks
  • Responsible for the implementation, and execution of certain EHS policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Maintain chemical management documentation, new equipment, and approval process
  • Monitor and analyze EHS data, trends, and metrics to identify areas of improvement and implementation of necessary corrective actions
  • Preparation of EHS reports and presentations as delegated
  • Assist in new employee orientation training
  • Assist site supervisors in investigations of incidents and severe incidents to prevent recurrence
  • Conduct risk assessments and recommend risk mitigation strategies
  • Provide EHS technical support and drive site specific initiative and projects
  • Promote Daikin’s goal of zero accidents, emissions, etc.
  • Assign Safety Training, OSHA 30 to applicable employees
  • Responsible for PPE for safety sensitive positions
  • Establish policies and procedures to identify and address risks in the organization’s services and departments.
  • Recommends and implements risk management solutions such as insurance, safety and security policies, business continuity plans, or recovery measures.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local regulations and industry best practices

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Screen projects and project sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure site compliance within the company and jurisdictional safety policies and procedures.
  • Document all accidents, incidents, safety violations, unsafe working conditions, and activities for documentation and lessons learned.
  • Work with project management teams, supervisors and field workers to implement and device solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.

Competency and Experience:

  • A minimum of 3+ years of practical environmental health and safety management experience.
  • Background in applying safety principles within a service or construction industry preferred.
  • Excellent computers skills are necessary. This includes a prominent level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and other industries with accepted software platforms.
  • General knowledge of OSHA, EPA, MSHA, DOT, as appropriate.
  • You must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 24 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations.
  • Ability to motivate, engage and influence others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and verbal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt well to challenging environments with changing circumstances, direction and strategy.
  • Diligence with excellent organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Work Excel, PowerPoint, SmartSheets, etc. required.
  • Comfortable working with field technicians, presenting training material to large audiences, as well as communicating with leaders in the organization.

 

 

Education and Certification:

Bachelor’s degree with related background in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health or related field preferred.
