Job Summary

Diagnosis, repair, and perform preventative maintenance of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. Provide necessary training and guidance to Level I technicians. Responsibilities will increase based on exposure to tasks, existing and ability to further develop troubleshooting skill set, and consistent and accurate completion of assignments. HVAC equipment includes but is not limited to the following: large and small rooftop units, split systems, chillers, boilers, and some centrifugal chiller units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform Maintenance of HVAC Unitary and Applied Equipment including logging machines, cleaning coils, brushing tubes, replacing filters, replacing belts and proper lubrication:
  2. Perform troubleshooting, intermediate independent & supported diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting, and brazing of CAT II equipment. Repairs and replacements of defective equipment, components, or wiring including, but not limited to CAT II and III equipment: VFDs, boilers, electrical and refrigerant circuits, screw, scroll, and reciprocal compressors, rooftop systems up to 150 tons, Scroll chillers up to 200 tons.
  3. Beginner-Intermediate level proficiency in independent troubleshooting of CAT II and III equipment. Introduction to centrifugal chillers and CAT I equipment.
  4. Conduct Warranty Service Application: Independently inspects and test systems to verify functionality related to scroll chillers, rooftop units up to 150 tons, and all Category II and III
    equipment.
  5. Perform Start Ups: Verify functionality of new CAT II & III equipment. Educate customers on proper use of equipment, maintenance schedule, and operating manual.
  6. Rebuilds: Leads the rebuild of a CAT II and III level unit. Directs level I technicians through hands- on demonstrations of all necessary steps. Introduced to centrifugal rebuilds from Lead and level III technicians.
  7. Customer Service: Demonstrates professionalism in appearance, verbal, and written communication. Interacts with customer by offering status reports of service before, during, and after each call. Explains technical information to technical and non-technical audience.
  8. Support Sales: Communicates potential sales opportunities to Service Sales Representative through the tech tip program. Identifies opportunities for minor service and repair work through service agreements up to $5K.
  9. Conduct Technician Training: Responsible for mentoring level I service technicians and trains on Scroll chillers, micro-techs, and CAT II & III equipment.
  10. Document Performance: Records and reports billing, inventory, timecards, technician tip reports, and other articles as required in a timely manner
  11. Computer Usage: Basic data entry and ability to navigate the use of email, internet, word processing programs. Download programs into CAT II equipment and Micro controllers. Analyze equipment trend data to ensure optimal performance.
  12. Exhibit Compliance: Ensure standards, policies, procedures, and maintenance of a clean work area are upheld at all times.
  13. Ability to follow schedules and budgets
  14. May directly supervise level I service technicians. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations’ policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving
    problems.
  15. Wear company uniform and required safety PPE, perform job hazard analysis
  16. Participate in on call rotation
  17. Follow all OSHA and Daikin Applied safety policies and procedures.
  18. Potential travel requirements with some overnight travel.
  19. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements
2 Year / Associate Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning

Minimum Experience
3 years of Related experience with increasing responsibility.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. State license or certifications as required by market. EPA approved Universal Technician Certification required, as necessary


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Current first aid / CPR card, OSHA 10 Certification

Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms and possible extreme weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock (high voltage); and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, use hands to touch, reach, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Strong eye hand coordination and dexterity, climbing ladders and no fear of heights
