Controls Construction Manager
Purpose of the Position |
As part of the Varitec Controls and Service Solutions LLC team, expectations are that you will be a team player that puts the companies’ internal and external customers first. This position will be overseeing our Technician workforce for our control systems while providing top-tier customer service for all internal and external customers. In order to perform your tasks, you will utilize your knowledge of HVAC Systems, control devices, computer operations, electronics, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, direct digital controls, airflow, hydronic systems, IT networking, analytics and building controls technologies.
Essential Functions |
- Strategy development with Operations Leadership Team to capture and retain market share.
- Represent the company by serving as our direct customer contact, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Maintain customer satisfaction by listening to concerns, implementing corrective action, and communicating with customers on resolutions.
- Communicate with building owners, mechanical contractors, subcontractors, and field support staff.
- Mentoring a diverse team of Controls Technicians and Controls Application Engineers to ensure we are delivering the highest value to our customers and shareholders.
- Create and maintain development plans to keep our workforce safe and trained to execute projects.
- Perform regular checks on the quality of our Technicians’ work and act when quality or knowledge is lacking.
- Coordination of construction activities for BAS projects (labor scheduling, working with internal and external stakeholders and subcontractors).
- Manage resource allocation, staffing, and capacity planning to ensure efficient utilization of operations resources for projects.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to track progress for construction projects.
- Scheduling labor as needed for business planning.
- Conduct 1-1 meetings with direct reports monthly.
- Conduct performance evaluations, setting goals, and providing regular feedback and coaching to team members to foster their professional growth and development.
- Assist PMs with the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Stay current on all product lines and software solutions used by the company.
- Continuously evaluate and improve processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance productivity, quality, and innovation.
- Demonstrate expertise in HVAC controls systems design and commissioning
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional collaboration, resolve design challenges, and manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Support the sales team by assisting with quote preparation and proposals.
- Follow and manage processes and procedures in a timely manner; Example: Email, Teams, Trello, Bidtracer, Project Folder Management, labor logs and personal expense submission.
Competency and Experience |
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the construction industry.
- Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per VCSS’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a company vehicle.
- Ability to use Windows applications primarily Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of refrigeration machinery, tools and their application.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret written instructions and construction project documents as they apply to aforementioned duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to make judgments after analysis of available information and respond with a timely decision.
- Ability to plan work and sequence priorities.
- Ability to speak articulately one-on-one or to small groups.
- Ability to compose articulate and grammatically correct written communication.
- Ability to perform under difficult conditions, such as simultaneous deadlines.
- Ability to handle conflict.
Supervisory Responsibilities |
This position does have direct supervisor responsibilities of Controls Technicians and Controls Application Engineers.
Education and Certification |
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Other technical experience such as military, on the job training programs, etc. may meet this requirement as determined by local management.
- Must have or be willing to obtain OSHA safety training, along with managing a safe workforce and safety policies.
Work Environment |
- This position may require working in extremely hot or cold weather conditions. Furthermore, there may be noisy or potentially hazardous conditions that require the use of PPE.
- There will be significant and daily local travel to customer sites to perform the duties of this position. In addition, occasional overnight travel may be required for distant customer sites. Also, from time to time, overnight travel may be required for training at various manufacturers, generally lasting anywhere from 2 to 5 days.
Physical Demands |
- Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
- Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites.
- Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site.
- Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.
- Be able to drive for extended periods of time.
