Purpose of this position

This position exists to contribute to the efforts of the EQ Sales Team in their multi-level selling efforts required to successfully procure orders for large capital HVAC equipment.  The goal of the Field Service Technician is to perform start-up and commissioning of equipment, as well as trouble shoot and repair issues with equipment upon arrival from the factory or during the warranty period.

Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as a representative of Varitec, primarily in person or on the telephone, displaying courtesy, tact, professionalism and discretion in all interactions with fellow employees and the company’s clientele.

Work as a team with the Commissioning Coordinator to fulfill customer needs with courtesy and in a timely manner.

These duties include, but are not limited to:

• Timely response to all customer requests.
• Perform start up, owner training, or equipment troubleshooting and repair as required by the project.
• Interface with Varitec parts departments in the procurement of parts provided during warranty period.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Become familiar with factory personnel, product, model numbers, descriptions, etc.
• Provide timely, accurate and courteous service to customers’ and co-workers’ requests.
• Provide insight, suggestions, and enhancements to all current responsibilities.
• Participate in training activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have any direct supervisor responsibilities of other employees.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma.
• Refrigeration school certificate is greatly preferred.
• Other technical experience such as military, on the job training programs, etc. may meet this requirement as determined by local management.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the construction industry.
• Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per Varitec’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a company vehicle.
• Ability to use Windows applications primarily Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Working knowledge of refrigeration machinery, tools and their application.

Physical Demands

• Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
• Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites.
• Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site.
• Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.

Extent of Public Contact

Public contact includes extensive and frequent interaction with Varitec customers and co-workers as well as with the customer’s and manufacturers’ personnel.  In many instances the Field Service Technician will be the first representative of Varitec that a customer has met on a project.  First and long term impressions are very important. 

Working Conditions and Environment – Safety Sensitive

There will be significant and daily local travel to customer sites to perform the duties of this position.  In addition occasional overnight travel may be required for distant customer sites. Also, from time to time, overnight travel may be required for training at various manufacturers, generally lasting anywhere from 2 to 5 days.  Normal office hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  However, all employees in sales and sales support functions are expected to have a “get the job done” mentality.  This will involve additional time as necessary to insure that project deadlines are met as required.
