JOB TITLE:   Air Compressor Technician

Purpose of this position

The primary responsibility of this position is to independently perform a variety of routine, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnostic advance repairs on oil injected rotary screw air compressors and related equipment as well as installation of compressor system electrical and plumbing.

Duties and Responsibilities

Utilize interpersonal, professional, and technical skills to effectively perform the duties of this position. These duties include, but are not limited to:

• Perform diagnostics on malfunctioning compressors, determine possible causes for malfunctions, and perform repairs as suggested by diagnostics and assessment
• Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations (with regards to schedule and scope).
• Document the proper operating parameters of the compressor prior to and following preventative maintenance and repair test.
• Demonstrate expertise in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of a wide variety of Industrial compressors.
• Interpret technical and parts manuals to diagnose and repair equipment
• Identify and order appropriate parts necessary to complete repairs and routine maintenance.
• Assist other Service Technicians.
• Promote and practice proper safety procedures and the correct use of personal protective equipment at all times.
• Provide a high level of customer service, responding to customer needs and working to satisfy customer expectations.
• Develop rapport with customers through effective communication, interpersonal skills, and professionalism.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Become familiar with factory personnel, product, model numbers, descriptions, etc.
• Provide timely, accurate and courteous service to customers’ and co-workers’ requests.
• Provide insight, suggestions, and enhancements to all current responsibilities.
• Participate in training activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret written instructions and construction project documents as they apply to aforementioned duties and responsibilities

• Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per Varitec’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a company vehicle.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma.
• Refrigeration school certificate is greatly preferred.
• Other technical experience such as military, on the job training programs, etc.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the compressed air industry. (If Possible)
• Good driving record – a must.
• Working knowledge of refrigeration machinery, tools and their application.
• Ability to use Windows applications primarily Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Extent of Public Contact

Public contact includes extensive and constant interaction with Varitec customers and co-workers as well as with the customer’s and manufactures’ personnel. It is one of the key elements of the position.

Physical Demands

• Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
• Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites.
• Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site.
• Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.
• Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions and Environment – Safety Sensitive

Normal work hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  However, all employees are expected to have a “get the job done” mentality.  This will involve additional time as necessary to insure that deadlines are met as required.  It can be expected that some weeks will require more than 40 work hours.  

There will be significant and daily local travel to customer sites to perform the duties of this position.  In addition occasional overnight travel may be required for distant customer sites. Also, from time to time, overnight travel may be required for training at various manufacturers, generally lasting anywhere from 2 to 5 days.
